Breakthrough Fasting & Prayer

January 7, 2009 (Day Four)

Today we are breaking free of food strongholds that we have so easily accepted in our lives. By the fourth day most of the initial cravings have begun to subside. The sugar demon is fading and the caffeine circus that has played in my head is taking down the Big Top! Food addictions are very real. We are painfully aware of that fact today more than ever. Stay the course! You are, “pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled” (2 Corinthians 10:4-6 NKJ).

Every day of this passage from a fleshly dominated mental arena to a spirit-filled life of revelation and growth is worth the headache! One of the upsides is also found in the mellowing we all tend to experience a little more each day as we walk deeper into this Breakthrough Fasting & Prayer Journey!

I confess, the saga of this fasting expedition played out in the diverse characters on this voyage, can be very entertaining. For instance, in my household, because my children are entering adulthood, we allow them to determine their own level of commitment in fasting. While this puts the emphasis on them individually to direct their spiritual discovery, it has an unintended consequence of comparisons that produce judgment and condemnation. Hey guys! This reminder in 2 Corinthians 10:12 (MSG) might be helpful, “…in all this comparing and grading and competing, they quite miss the point.”

Remember the three words I have been sharing with you; connect; commit; continue? On this fourth day of fasting the word in my spirit is commit! Psalm 37:4-5 (NKJ) gives us this promise regarding commitment, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

You will adjust your lifestyle to accommodate your commitment to God, or adjust your commitment to accommodate your lifestyle! You will never be uncommitted. You are pledging your life to something with every breath. A commitment to God has the faithful promise of His completed work regarding the desires of your heart. Your commitment to Breakthrough Fasting & Prayer is the foundation on which your delight in God is being erected! Stay the course.

There is an added bonus to a Godly commitment also! In this crazy world of delusion and fantasy you can have the guarantee of Proverbs 16:3 (NKJ), “Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” Right not! Today! Commit everything you are working on to God!

Webster defines the word commit as: to carry into action deliberately! Make the deliberate choice to carry everything you are involved with into God’s hand! Commit it to Him now! Watch his power be released through your life in a miraculous manner.

Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJ) “The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

Blessings & Peace,

PG
